A recent hire by Nordstrom shows the retailer’s determination to strengthen its fusion of tech and in-store shopping. The company has brought in Kumar Srinivasan to serve as its chief technology officer, per Luxury Daily.
Srinivasan has an accomplished track record in the online retail space. He previously served as the chief product and technology officer for Bazaarvoice. Before that, he was a vice president and general manager at Amazon. It’s believed that Srinivasan will be charged with developing better customer experiences through a variety of in-store technology solutions.
“We’re bringing Kumar to Nordstrom at an important time, as we are positioning our technology organization to better support our long-term growth plans,” said Nordstrom CIO Dan Little in a statement.
“Kumar’s extensive experience in strategy, product development and delivering technology solutions that support a great user experience, as well as his passion for the customer, will be invaluable.”
Part Of A Larger In-Store Shift
Srinivasan’s hire coincides with other changes the retailer is making to build a new, exciting physical store experience. Most notably, the company is wrapping its New York City location in a beautiful glass exterior designed to draw visitors merely on the merits of its artistry.
That move is being done in hopes of turning Nordstrom locations into experience destinations — not just a place to buy clothes, but an attraction even outside of the products it sells.
Srinivasan will be tasked with developing new opportunities that create competitive advantages for the retailer, all while increasing ROI. Those challenges are easier said than done, but his background suggests he’ll be able to revolutionize brick-and-mortar space for Nordstrom, creating new advantages while asserting the brand as a leader in retail omnichannel strategy.
The new CTO is no stranger to technology’s opportunities, but with a company investing heavily into its physical retail assets, he’ll have a new arena to put his ideas to work.
