Kohl’s shoppers could be in for big rewards when they use their mobile devices to shop at retail stores and online. The new “Win Great Things,” Kohl’s mobile sweepstakes, offers rewards in the form of online game pieces and savings on future purchases.
The retail chain ran the same campaign last year and had success with it, but this year’s version will see an increase in the role of mobile devices, according to a Kohl’s press release. The prize offerings also have been improved to increase shopper participation.
Through Sept. 2, shoppers will receive one game piece for every $30 spent in stores or online. Those pieces make collectors eligible for a variety of prizes.
Bringing Mobile Into the Fold
In a departure from email marketing methods, Kohl’s is instead using short message service (SMS) to drive traffic to its retail microsite. When consumers click through the link to access the site, they are able to enter a game-piece code to see if they are an instant winner. Additionally, consumers can opt in to receive email messages that may include discounts and other rewards offerings.
In the process, Kohl’s is helping increase in-store shopping while ramping up its mobile-device database. A large database will continue to prove valuable in future Kohl’s mobile campaigns — especially as this becomes a more integral strategy for retail success.
Several other companies, including Macy’s and Office Depot, have also targeted younger, mobile-wielding consumers through back-to-school campaigns. By strengthening the union between mobile commerce and in-store shopping, Kohl’s is following the lead of those retailers that have found success in appealing to mobile shoppers.
